The firm works on the matters that determine how a commercial relationship holds together and how a dispute concludes. In practice that means contracts and corporate structure at one end, and notices, recovery and dispute resolution at the other, with a substantial personal and family practice alongside.

We work in English and Arabic, which in the UAE is not a convenience but a requirement. The courts operate in Arabic, instruments served through them are prepared in Arabic, and a document translated late and badly is a document that creates a second problem.

Clients deal directly with the person handling their matter. That is a deliberate constraint on how much work the firm takes rather than an aspiration, and it is the main thing distinguishing the experience of instructing a practice this size from instructing a larger one.

We practise in the United Arab Emirates through Mdwar & Partners Legal Consultants FZE LLC, registered as a legal consultancy. Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2022, in force since 2 January 2023, sets out what that covers: advice, contract drafting, legal research, transaction support and negotiation. Appearing before the UAE courts sits outside it and is reserved to registered advocates. Where a matter needs one we say so immediately and work alongside them, because being told the right thing late is considerably more expensive than being told it at the outset.
